Front Range Ski Life is a series that highlights a group of Colorado skiers and snowboarders living along the Front Range. In non-Coloradoan terms, that means we live at the base of the Front Range Mountains in Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, or Colorado Springs. I created Front Range Ski Life during the 2008-2009 ski season. It was a lot of fun making episodes like Resort Slackcountry and Zen and the Art of Skiing. But I let it go into hibernation for the past decade. The time is right wake it up and again share the Front Range Ski Life.
What does this have to do with an environmental blog? I’m an environmental professional and I’m a skier. Those two are not exclusive of each other. Most people who enjoy outdoor recreation have some level of appreciation for the nature of their sport. When you are deeply involved in skiing, hiking, camping, fishing, or hunting you develop an understanding of the balance between the sport, land use, pollution, and conservation. No one wants to catch a fish full of mercury, hike through polluted air, or swim in polluted water.
Since the original series, my video production has blended into my actual work. I have produced a collection of environmental education films. That puts me at the intersection of being an environmental professional, enjoying outdoor recreation, and video production. Therefore, the second life of Front Range Ski Life will be more broad. The first season was really about the skiing. This new version will be the skiing, eating, traveling, and even the environment.
If you’re a skier, enjoy the outdoors, or have an appreciation for the environment, this series will have something for you. So join us in living the Front Range Ski Life. As the late, great Warren Miller said, If you don’t do it this year, you’ll be one year older when you do.
